Biography:
Dr. M. Akbarzadeh received his PhD in 1998 on Evolutionary Optimization and Fuzzy Control of Complex Systems from the University of New Mexico (UNM). From 1996-2002, he was with the NASA Center for Autonomous Control Engineering at UNM. In 2006 and 2017, he completed two sabbaticals at the Berkeley Initiative on Soft Computing (BISC), UC Berkeley. In 2007, he also collaborated with Purdue University as a consulting faculty.
He is currently a professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at FUM. He is also a member of the IEEE Technical Committee on Fuzzy Systems, a council member of the International Fuzzy Systems Association (IFSA), and a council member of the Intelligent Systems Scientific Society of Iran (ISSSI). He has received several awards including: Excellent Leadership Award in 2010 from the IDB, Outstanding Faculty Award in 2008 and 2002, Outstanding Graduate Student Award in 1998, and Service Award from the Mathematics Honor Society in 1989. His research interests are in the areas of bio-inspired computing/optimization, soft computing and control, multi-agent systems and distributed AI, uncertain and complex systems, robotics, cognitive sciences, medical informatics, and biomedical engineering systems.
